Metzakis Manolis

Manolis Metzakis UPI CR3, E.FIAP/s, PSA CP**, PSA MP** was born in Iraklio, Crete.
He is a graduate of the University of Crete, with a degree in Mathematics.
In 1989 he joined the Hellenic Photographic Society, Crete.
In the same year he founded the Photography Society of the University of Crete, where, for three years he taught the art of photography, (theory and practical), to students from all departments of the university.
In January 1992 he stood, for the first time, as a candidate to the Administrative Committee of the H.P.S. Crete. On being elected he took up the duties of General Supervisor.
In 1994, 1996 and 1998 he was re-elected to the same position.
In January 2000 he was elected Chairman of the Hellenic Photographic Society, Crete.
In 2002, 2004, 2006, 2008 he was re-elected to the same position.
The first solo exhibition of his photographs was held in August 1994.
This was followed by solo exhibitions in Kastoria, Mytilini, Florina and at the cafe Gallery in Iraklio.
He has also participated in many group exhibitions.
Many Greek magazines have shown interest in, and published, items of his work.
He has created two sound-recorded presentations entitled, 'Amorgos' and 'Patras Carnival'.
He has collaborated professionally with the Cretan periodical EPOCHES, and was responsible for the whole photographic section for about a year.
From 1999 he has been a judge at many photographic competitions.
In 1996, at the request of the International Museum of Photography in Catalonia, Spain, he made a gift of his photograph 'Millstone', which is now part of the museum's collection.
In 2008 after a new request of the same Museum, he made a gift of 4 new photos. In 2009 at the request of the Museum of "EL-GRECO", he made a gift of 5 photos.
From 1990 onwards he has participated in national photographic exhibitions.
He has taken part in 39 exhibitions, showing 85 different pieces of work which, in turn, have won 14 gold medals, 7 silver , 3 bronze , 15 awards and 165 merits.
From 1993 onwards he has taken part regularly in international photographic exhibitions.
He has taken part in 500 such exhibitions, showing 185 different pieces of work, which have won, 11 gold medals, 14 silver, 14 bronze, 65 honorable mentions and 1150 acceptances.
At the beginning of 1997, on invitation, he entered 4 pieces of work to the international exhibition of photography in Romania, held under the auspices of the Romanian Ministry of Culture. In 1998 he was invited, yet again, to take part in a new exhibition.
In May 1996, the Federation internationale de l'art Photographique, F.I.A.P., honoured him with the artistic title A. FIAP (Artist FIAP), in recognition of his artistic achievements nationally and in international photography competitions. In December 1999 the F.I.A.P. awarded him the highest recognition, the title E.FIAP (Excellent F.I.A.P.). In Janyary 2008 the F.I.A.P. awarded him the title E.FIAP/b.
In December 1996 the Photographic Society of America enrolled him as a member and in September 1997 awarded him the title of 'Single Star' photographer. In May 1999 he was awarded the title 'Double Star' photographer.
In November 1997, 1999, 2000 he was employed by the Secondary Education Board of Iraklio to teach the art of photography to pupils at the Multi-Optional High School, Iraklio.
At the end of 1997 he was employed at the State Institute of Further Education, Iraklio to teach the art of photography to students in the departments of 'Photographic Technique' and 'Fine Art Preservation'. Also he was teaching photography in the University of Crete for three years.
In July 1998 he became a member of the Hellenic Guild of Fine Arts.
He has been employed by the Technical Institute of Higher Education of Iraklio since Septemper 2000, where he teaches Photographic Technology and Biomathematics.
He speaks English and excellent Romanian. He is member of the board of Unided Photographers International (U.P.I.)
Since February 2009 he has been the President of the Direction Board of United Photographers International (U.P.I.)
